Ghaziabad News:

Ghaziabad News: Wave City Police Help Victim Recover ₹4.83 Lakh Lost in Online Fraud

Ghaziabad News: In a significant relief for a cyber fraud victim, Wave City Police and the cyber cell in Ghaziabad have reportedly helped recover ₹4.83 lakh lost in an online scam. The money was returned following prompt action by the police after the victim filed a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

The case highlights the importance of reporting online financial fraud immediately, as quick intervention can improve the chances of stopping suspicious transactions and recovering lost funds.

How Did the Online Fraud Take Place?

According to the available report, the victim, identified as Shashikala, lives in Mansarovar Park, Lal Kuan, Ghaziabad.

She reportedly encountered an advertisement or link on Facebook and made an online payment. Following the transaction, she discovered that ₹4,83,000 had been lost in a suspected cyber fraud.

After realising what had happened, she approached the authorities and submitted a complaint to seek assistance in recovering the money.

Cyber Cell Takes Swift Action

The report states that Shashikala filed her complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) on July 18, 2026.

Following the complaint, the cyber cell associated with Wave City Police began taking action. Police reportedly contacted the relevant banks and arranged for the disputed amount to be placed on hold.

This timely intervention helped prevent the funds from being moved further while the necessary recovery process was carried out.

Victim Receives the Full Amount Back

After continued efforts by the police and coordination with the banking authorities, the victim reportedly received the entire ₹4.83 lakh back on October 10, 2026.

The recovery brought considerable relief to the victim, who expressed gratitude to the police team for helping her recover the money.

The case demonstrates why reporting suspicious transactions without delay is important. Although recovery is not guaranteed in every cybercrime case, early reporting may help authorities and banks take action before funds are transferred or withdrawn.

Ghaziabad Police Issue Cyber Safety Advisory

Following the incident, residents have been advised to exercise caution while shopping online, browsing social media advertisements or making digital payments.

Here are some important precautions to follow:

  • Verify online sellers: Check the authenticity of a seller or business before making a payment.
  • Avoid suspicious links: Do not click on unfamiliar links promising unusually attractive offers or financial benefits.
  • Never share banking details: Keep your OTP, UPI PIN, passwords and other confidential credentials private.
  • Check payment requests carefully: Remember that receiving money through UPI does not require entering your UPI PIN.
  • Report fraud immediately: Contact your bank and report cyber financial fraud through the official helpline or reporting portal.

What Should You Do If You Lose Money in a Cyber Scam?

If you become a victim of online financial fraud, take action immediately rather than waiting for the situation to resolve itself.

  1. Call India’s cyber financial fraud helpline at 1930 as soon as possible.
  2. File a complaint through the official National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/.
  3. Inform your bank or payment service provider and request that the suspicious transaction be investigated.
  4. Preserve transaction IDs, bank messages, screenshots, phone numbers and other relevant evidence.
  5. Keep your complaint acknowledgement number for follow-up with the authorities.

Quick reporting can help authorities coordinate with banks and payment intermediaries to trace or freeze suspicious funds when possible.

Previous Cyber Fraud Cases in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad has also witnessed investigations into organised cyber fraud. According to a separate report published in October 2026, police arrested seven alleged suspects in a case involving fraudulent insurance policies and Google Ads.

The reported investigation concerned suspected losses exceeding ₹40 lakh. Such cases underline the need for stronger online awareness and careful verification before trusting advertisements or offers found on the internet.
